NEW SECURITY MEASURES TO PROTECT YOUR ACCOUNT

Safety is our top priority at Amtrak — and this includes keeping the information in your Amtrak Guest Rewards account secure. To provide an extra layer of protection, we will now ask you for a temporary verification code when you log in to Amtrak.com and the Amtrak app or make changes to your profile (such as resetting your password).

Called ‘multi-factor authentication’, this added security step better helps Amtrak identify you as the account holder and better prevents others from trying to access it. Each time you request this code, you can choose to have it sent to the primary email address on your account or to your SMS-enabled mobile device.

This new log-in policy is now in effect — and no action is required on your part. If you’d like to review your profile information, update your contact information, or select your code delivery preference, you can do so here.

Multi-Factor Authentication FAQs

  • Adding multi-factor authentication enhances Amtrak Guest Rewards account security by requiring more than one form of verification when you log in or make changes to Amtrak Guest Rewards account. This extra layer of protection helps Amtrak identify you and ensures your account be more resilient to unauthorized users.

  • The verification code will be required on your device every 30 days when you log in to Amtrak.com and 90 days on the Amtrak app. It will also be required when you log in from a new device or make changes to your profile, such as changing your email address or password. Device recognition will still be in place after logging in — to ensure your ability of searching for fares, booking a ticket or looking up information is as seamless as possible.

  • Each time you request a temporary verification code, you can choose to receive it via the email address or SMS-enabled device listed in your profile. This code cannot be delivered to VoIP phone numbers (example: Google Voice).

  • The temporary verification code will be valid for 10 minutes after you request it. If logging in after 10 minutes, you will need to request a new code.

  • The adoption of multi-factor authentication is now required for all Amtrak Guest Rewards account holders. The ability to opt-out of this service is disabled and will soon be removed from your profile entirely.
