How to Customize Your Amtrak Experience
Depending on your route, you can design your Amtrak experience, so every trip is a new adventure. Here's how you can customize your Amtrak experience.
Coach or Business Class
Amtrak’s coach seats are some of the roomiest in the travel industry. Not only are our seats larger than those you would find on coach class on most airplanes, but they also offer more legroom, plus seats come equipped with free WiFi and power outlets to help keep you connected throughout your travels. The best part? On Amtrak, there are no middle seats, ever.
Sometimes though you need more — more room, more amenities, more time — and that’s where Amtrak Business Class and Acela First Class come in. Amtrak Business Class amenities vary depending on route, but you can always count on more legroom, free drinks, flexible tickets, and access to free priority boarding. Customers in Acela First Class receive complimentary onboard food and beverage services, plus access to ClubAcela lounges in Boston - South Station, New York - Penn Station, Philadelphia - William H Gray III 30th Street Station and Washington, DC - Union Station.
Seat or Sleeper
If you’re on a day trip, a seat — whether in coach, business, or first class — will provide you more than enough comfort for your journey. If you’re taking a longer or overnight trip, however, you may want to upgrade to a sleeper car. Depending on how much you want to spread out, you can choose between two kinds of private rooms on Amtrak sleeper cars: roomettes and bedrooms. Both room types offer privacy, ample storage to keep your carry-on bags, and outlets for all of your gadgets.
During the day, you have your own room to work, play, watch a movie, or just enjoy the views. At night, the seats collapse into comfortable beds. All rooms are complete with their own bed linens, pillows, temperature controls, lights, bed-side storage nooks, and, of course, beautiful views. Roomettes can accommodate up to two passengers. Traveling with more people? Consider upgrading to one of our bedrooms — big enough for a family of four.
In addition to free meals served in the dining car or delivered to your room, sleeper class passengers are entitled to a range of hotel-like amenities, including fresh linen and towels; turndown service; and complimentary bottled water, tea, and coffee. Sleeper class passengers are also welcome to visit Amtrak’s Club Acela and Metropolitan Lounges, found in major cities across the country.
