Service Is Restored Between New York Penn Station and Boston South Station

July 06, 2024 10:30 PM

As of 9 p.m. (ET), Amtrak service between Boston and New York City has been fully restored. The preliminary cause is a lightning strike that interrupted our power.

  • This evening, trains 65 (Boston to Newport News, Virginia) and 66 (Roanoke, Va. to Boston) are operating on time as scheduled.
  • On Sunday, most trains will operate on schedule. Due to equipment locations at the time of the service disruption, trains 143, 162, and 150 are cancelled. Train 54 and Train 157 will operate on a modified schedule.

Amtrak is communicating directly with customers impacted by these adjustments and offering options for rebooking their travel plans. Amtrak apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the disruption.

Customers with reservations on affected trains will typically be accommodated on trains with similar departure times or another day. Amtrak will waive additional charges for customers looking to change their reservation during the modified schedule by calling our reservation center at 1-800-USA-RAIL.
